OSTOJA has been on the market since 1992. Having received her post-doctoral degree from the Faculty of Psychology, Warsaw University, Helena - the firm's founder and owner - left her successful academic career to pursue another of her passions, scientific translation. Taking advantage of the fact that she is half-Scottish and half-Polish, has equal mastery of English and Polish and her own publications - 2 books and over 30 scientific articles published in Polish and English-language journals - were frequently praised for their beautiful, clear and precise language, she founded OSTOJA. The business soon gained the trust of individuals and institutions who wanted their texts to be translated both professionally and beautifully. At first OSTOJA translated mainly psychological texts but soon gained renown among representatives of other disciplines. OSTOJA now caters for such disciplines as: psychology - especially clinical and health psychology, sociology, psychiatry, epileptology, alcohol-related problems and their treatment, social work, psychology of music, musicology and general topics.
In 2007, having expanded her firm which now operates under the generic name OSTOJA-TBIC and offers not only scientific translation but also image consulting for men, Helena decided to focus mainly on what she is unparalleled in, i.e., translation into English.
Helena has translated 40 books and well over a thousand smaller works: research articles, conference papers, psychological tests, scales and test manuals, book reviews, materials for the United Nations Organisation, materials for PHARE Foundation, the draft of the Psychiatric Act (for Polish Parliament) and former President Lech Walesa's address in Taiwan. She has acted as interpreter to the International Master Courses in String Instruments in Lancut. She has also conducted live consecutive translations of psychotherapeutic workshops and psychological conferences and acted as interpreter to the International Skating Union Inspection of the European Championships in Figure Skating®, Warsaw 2007.
